What Causes 1mm Difference In Pupils Of Child?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: My 6 year old son recently had a routine school eye exam screening in which his results were slightly alarming showing his pupils to be over 1MM in difference. We have made an appointment to see a pediatric eye specialist but I am extremely concerned as his mother and wish to do my due diligence. Do you have any advice or guidance you could give me so I can be as proactive as possible?

Brief Answer:
don't worry it could be normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Is your child otherwise normal with no symptoms?
Don't worry.
In 20% children, it can be just a normal variation without any serious underlying illness.
But having said that you still need to go ahead with your consultation.
There can be issues like muscle issue or brain problems but the chances I hope are less.

Let me know your son's results.
If needed Mri brain may be done. Let your consultant decide that.

Wishing your son good health.
Regards
Dr Arun
