default
Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: Hi,I'm a 42-year old woman. I just had a short menstrual cycle less than 2 weeks ago. i have had severe lower back and abdominal pain for the last 5 days. I am on no birth control, and today i started spotting dark blood with swollen breasts. My home pregnancy test said it was negative. could i still be pregnant?

i am married and not on birth control. the pain seems unusually worse and the blood and urine is darker. could i still be pregnant and re-test at home

Brief Answer:
You should be tested for infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.

I understand your concern but it doesn't seems to be related with any pregnancy because home pregnancy tests are very sensitive.

As per your scenario it seems to be more a cervical infection with intermenstrual spotting and back ache.

Hence you need for a proper gynecologic exam with a vaginal swab to confirm /exclude infection, and Pap smear (if already have passed one year from the last one)

All the best
