Question: Hi Doctor,
My first test over a year ago showd up high total bilirubin 2 mg/dl.
yesterday i did again a blood test and still total bilirubin is 2 mg/dl,where direct bilirubin=0.6 and indirect bilirubin=1.4.Other enzymes (alt =14 u/L and AST=19 U/L) are ok.
i did a ultra sound and doc told me that everything looks normal but still no explaination on why the bilirubi is high.

Brief Answer:
There is no need to worry.

Detailed Answer:

These bilirubin values are slightly elevated and this is not worrying finding, if other liver enzymes are fine as it is.

In some people, persistant elevation of bilirubin may be normal, it can be sign of certain medication intake, alcohol intake or mild viral hepatitis. Also, it can be sign of gilbert's disease. So you can do genetic testing for it. But if you don't have symptoms, and USG is fine then all you need is follow up in 2-3 months.

Wish you good health.

Regards
