What Causes A Hot And Flushed Cheeks In An Elderly Person?
there are some possible causes.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to Healthcare magic.
There are some possible causes for facial flushing .Since you are experiencing these symptoms only for some hours ,it may indicate that the cause might be circumstantial.Know causes include:
1) Episodes of high blood pressure can cause facial flushing .I would suggest to measure your blood pressure to exclude this.
2)Eating spicy or sour foods can cause such symptoms due to a neural reflex. Also eating hot foods and beverages
3) Minor allergies to certain foods, lotions, cream, detergents are common causes.
4) A number of drugs can cause facial flushing. Most common are nitroglicerin, Calcium channel blockers ,Bromocriptine, etc.
If you are taking medications right now ,please send me list of them.
5) Alcohol intake ,even in small doses. This is more evident if you also take medications for diabetes like chlorpropamide.
6) Anxiety and stress can also cause these symptoms.
Usually these causes cause temporary flushing that resolve on its own.If the symptoms persist you should consult your physician for examination.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.

Atorvastatin 10 mg.
I did take a Benadryl after I saw that the redness was not subsiding.
I have generally low to moderate BP. Since I had just awakened, I doubt that anxiety played any part. If you have any further possibilities, please let me know.
Many thanks, XXXX

Hello again!
It is difficult to evaluate this flushing that never happened before .It is necessary to observe it for some time.
If you don't have high blood pressure,no known allergy,no spicy foods , no anxiety or strong emotions at that moment ,it is difficult to say the right cause.
If taking Benadryl didn't improve the symptoms, most likely it is not related to any allergy.
If these symptoms will repeat or persist ,you should consult your physician for examination. Some causes should be taken in consideration:
1) Levothyroxin can cause hot flashes as a side effect
2)You may need to check your thyroid profile and levels of estrogen and progesterone .
In this case you would need a complete evaluation.
Wish you all the best.
Take care,
Dr.Rovena
