What Causes A Lump In The Groin Area?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: I have discovered a lump the size of an almond under the skin in the groin area (next to, but not
in, the scrotum). It is not painful by itself, but is irritatable to touch when I shower. Is this a cyst?
How might it have formed? Should I go to a clinic for a diagnosis? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Tests need to be done just to be sure there is nothing to be worried...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking Healthcaremagic.

I have gone through your history and my answer is as follows:

The lump that you describe, in that position and that size correlates with an inguinal swollen lymph node or even a sebaceous cyst,or even an infection/inflammation of the hair follicle (we call it foruncul)

The lymphnodes tends to get bigger if there is an infection near them. In this case even an infection of the skin can give this symptom. There is nothing to be worried.

If i was your caring doctor i would do a physical exam at the lump and do an ultrasound to determine its nature. Depending from the results you will get the right treatment.

I suggest you consult your family doctor and do an ultrasound of the scrotal region for the nature of this lump.

If you have any other question, don't hesitate to contact me.

Wish you good health.

Since you said that there is nothing to be worried, would there be any harm in
waiting two or three days to see if this swelling - or lump - diminishes and/or
disappears? Or is it more advisable to see a doctor first thing tomorrow? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Yes you can wait a couple of days

Detailed Answer:
No, there will be no harm in waiting a couple of days before doing the consult in your situation. Probably the lump will get smaller or even go away.

But if the pain gets bigger,or if you feel other lumps near this one (in the case of lymphnodes) or if you have fever than consult your doctor as soon as possible.

Regards.
