Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 29 year old male with no major medical problems. I just finished cycle of cipro500 2 po bid 7d. I noticed that when I started taking the medication, I began experiencing extreme itchiness on my scrotum, enough to wake me up at night scratching. I am wondering if the cipro could have caused this or is it a result of me being in a hot, humid climate? I have never had this before. Would kotoconazle cream be a sufficient treatment for the itchiness if it s due to a fungus/sweatiness/heat?
In my opinion, Ciprofloxacin in not known to cause scrotal itching. Like you mentioned, it could be due to hot and humid climate, so before starting any antifungal cream, I would recommend you to take some other measures first like keeping the pubic area clean, taking showers twice a day, keeping your garments clean and take anti allergic tablet (antihistamine) before going to bed for 3-5 days. It would hopefully go away on its own.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Hiba Tehrim, General & Family Physician
