Question: Hello.
I have a small lump in my tongue. It is about 1 - 2cm. Firm. You can see it when I look at bottom of tongue.
It is towards the front.
I had irritated my frenulum, and could feel a "pinching" feeling where the frenulum attached to tongue.
My Dr. Checked my lymph nodes, and took a look and said it is not cancer and "don't worry about it". It is like a " cyst. " and to come back in three months.

A dentist buddy felt it and described it as briney and encapsulated

I looked up cyst in tounge and am trying rinsing with salt water.

Thoughts?

What do you think it could be?

If I pinch it is solid, and hurts.......if I squeeze it

I thought I had lost the response, so I actually resubmitted it.

I can't tell if it is getting larger. However, sometimes, the lump is more noticeable. A greyish white color, them sometimes, it is harder to see, although I can still feel it.

Should I continue with salt rinses? Any vitamins I should take? Or any other suggestions to help it go away?

The "cyst" has grown, at least it is "puffy" around it.

I am concerned.

I sent updated photo to my Dr. Going to see him tomorrow.

Is this growth "normal" for a transient fluid cyst??

Hello. - I went back to my Dr. He said that if he was even the least bit concerned it was cancer, we would be acting on it. He looked at it again and said he didn't think it had grown at all. I think it has. He said textbook is "watch and wait". He told me a story about a patient that had the same thing that was my age, who was so worried that he arranged to see a specialist in XXXXXXX By the time he got in to see the specialist, 6 months later the lump was gone. I am in Winnipeg, so that is quite a distance to go.

My Dr said he had took the XXXXXXX of sending my photos that I had sent him on to a specialist in his practice. The Dr., a dermatologist, looked and apparently wasn't worried either. My Dr arranged for me to see him next week, to "calm my fears".

I asked why a dermatologist, and my doc told me that they look at tongue issues as well as ENT,etc. Of course, I googled it, (lol) and yes dermatologists are very involved with tongue issues.

At my first visit, my Dr said it was a cyst, which is what you said. I asked if was a mucous retention cyst. He explained the difference between mucous and mucus . ( I think I have that correct)

So the specialist is literally squeezing me on Tuesday.

I guess at the end of the day, I want the lump to absorb, dissolve and go away!

I don't know if these things just go away in time, continue to grow, stop. I don't like the thought of having things cut out! Especially out of the tongue- ouch!

Still a bit anxious, but hope and trust that on Tuesday the specialist will tell me to relax as well.
