What Causes A Painful Lump Under The Jaw Bone And Discomfort In Glands?
Hello,
I have had discomfort in my glands the last week or so. The only area that has been painful at times is just below my ear (parotid glands?). I actually had a dentist appt yesterday and said both sides of my next felt symmetrical. Last night i felt a lump literally under my jaw bone at the top beneath my ear. It was painful to the touch but i could only feel it when i pointed my chin down. I cannot feel it (by touch) With my head straight up. Can a dentist or doctor diagnose this as a possible issue thru their examination? As i mentioned i found it, but my dentist did not. I also have a burning sensation in my left side of face and pain in and around my ear.
There are glands in tis region...Lymph nodes!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this finding and all the inconveniences this has caused you. We have glands in the described region and this is normal. We only get concerned if they are increased in size.. This is to say that the doctor might have noticed it but because the size is normal, there is no reason to talk about. Because you can only feel this with the head in a particular position, it is most likely tiny and the reason why we do not really need to be worried about. I will say stay calm, relaxed, positive and optimistic as there is nothing to worry about at this time.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
Under inside of the jaw bone: Submental lymph nodes!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The description is correct and it is where lymph nodes are. Others are above the collar bone but this is not the case when the infection or reaction is on the head/neck region.
Parotid glands are higher and very close to the ears. You will no need to look for them right under the collarbone. If there was an issue, the doctor should be able to suspect before any tests are being considered for further evaluation.
Be calm and communicate further worries for evaluation and action.
It depends!

Hi,
There are always deep seated organs that cannot be fully appreciated without imaging. However, what direct imaging is the fact that they feel or appear abnormal. As long as this has not been confirmed, I will not recommend imaging. I strongly believe we do not need further imaging at this point for you.
I hope this helps. I wish you well.
