What Causes A Popping Sound In Back While Lying Down Post A Surgery?

Question: Dear sir,
My father is experiencing popping sound in back whenever he is lying down or while bowing to pray. This clicking sound is however painless. He is experiencing such symptoms since 10-15 days. He had undergone a micro surgery in the lower back for painful back and leg by an experienced neuro surgeon 1 and half year back.
What is causing such symptoms? Should it something to be highly worried about? Please give your valuable feedback and suggestions.

Brief Answer:
Most probably Osteoarthritis of the spine due to age

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Could you be a bit more detailed about the kind of surgery he had and for what purpose?

It appears that your father may be having Osteoarthritis of the spine due to ageing. The joints between the spine bones get degenerated due to age wear and tear. He need not worry about this. Just follow back extension exercises and good physiotherapy or Yoga.

If he is not having any other symptoms like weakness, back pain or tingling and numbness sensation then there is no need to worry.

If he has any of these symptoms since recently, he can get an Xray done and probably an MRI to look for possible causes which may be related to the survey he underwent.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Brief Answer:
Answers given according to the reports

Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the reports. There is disc prolapse arms ageing changes of spondylosis in the spine.

If he is having no pain, then nothing to worry about. Continue the therapy I mentioned for best results. If he develops pain that radiates to the lower limbs, he may need another MRI Scan to look for recurrence of disc prolapse.

Give high calcium and Vitamin D diet line eggs, fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, Nuts, yoghurt, adequate sunlight exposure by early morning walking outside. This will reduce fracture risk because bones are a bit weak. Avoid junk food, oily food, colas, smoking and alcohol.
