What Causes A Purple Spot On The Penile Shaft After Oral Sex?

Question: Hi, I received long and rough oral sex and when i had ejaculated in my friend's mouth my penis had a purple mark on the shaft but it wasn't a blister. It has spread out a bit and is red at the edges. I think it's like a hickey?

Hello,

If the mark happened immediately after sex, it would be too early for an STD or other infection. Most likely, from your description, it is a bruise. Broken capillaries release some blood into the tissues. Without being able to see it, I am limited in knowing the extent of the trauma to the tissues.

Bruises can look pretty disturbing, and can change color (red, purple, brown, yellow-green) due to the pigments in blood cells.

The body will naturally clean up the injury over time.

If it is deep enough to cause swelling and difficulty with urinating, or if it starts to swell significantly or look infected, then I recommend you do go in to be seen by a doctor. Development of infection would be more of a concern if there was a break in the skin, but that doesn't sound like what has happened.
