What Causes A Purple Spot On The Scrotum?

Posted on Fri, 1 Jul 2016
Question: HI DOC
I am male 26 from the UK fit and well

Showering a couple of days ago I noticed a purple spot behind my left testicle looked like a angiokeratoma I accidentally washing hard ripped of the top part of angiokeratoma. Which I have got checked in the past and doctor said it's capillaries or something like that.

In the UK I spoke to two doctors ones advice was that stuff like this I have to deal with in life as it is sometimes a cosmetic problem he refused to give me a appointment.

I went to a walk in centre and he said it's a superficial spot and nothing to worry about as it's not a lump etc he gave me a steroid cream to put on etc.

I have included pictures will the angiokeratoma just form again on top? Why do spots like this appear and what are your thoughts on the photos? Anything to worry about?

I am a worrier so I thought I would write into a professional who can give me more info.

I'm in no pain just stings around the spot which is on the scrotum and not attached to the testicle.

I don't have much time to go to doctors so thought asking a specialist may help.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry, just a normal variant

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, dermatologist.
I have reviewed all the attached pictures .
The doctors you have met are right in saying that it is nothing serious and just a cosmetic problem.
It was an angiokeratoma according to you.
Right now it is looking like a small superficial lesion. Angiokeratomas have a tendency to recur but it varies from person to person.
Not in everyone do they recur. So in your case we are not very sure that whether it will form or not.
Even if it forms it is just of cosmetic significance, nothing serious.
As far as their occurence are concerned they are normal physiological variant occuring in many normal persons.
You can leave it as such. No need to apply steroid cream.
I hope to have answered your query and would be happy to clarify any further doubts.
Regards
Dr Asmeet

Hi doctor I have uploaded 4 more new images for you too look at in daylight are these the same as last night? Or have they improved in appearance.

Where these pictures suffice for you to look at? As in there not blurry or anything like that?

Also if I hadn't gone to the doctor would your expert opinion be different?

Have you dealt with small spots like this in the past, can they be ignored and I can move on with normal life? I the lesion just part of my anatomy etc, and why do they occur. It feels a bit stingy but I think this maybe because of the peeled off.

Also on another note why do the purple spots exist? And will all my images be kept confidential.

Thank you madam for your reassurance

Please have a look through images and tell me if all is fine and if I can just draw the line and move on and not keep looking at it with worry.

Take care

Brief Answer:
Absolutely fine, no need to worry

Detailed Answer:
I have again reviewed the newly attached pictures.
These are clear pictures and are looking slightly better than the pictures you uploaded yesterday. I think it is resolving.
If you haven't visited the doctor in the past it would be difficult for me to comment that this was an old lesion of angiokeratoma as it was no longer a red a lesion.
I have seen many persons with scrotal angiokeratomas and they can be left as such without any intervention.
You don't have to worry about it as it is totally fine and can have a normal life.
These are just a normal variant of the body present in many individuals.
There is no specific reason for them to occur.
It is normally asymptomatic but stinging can be due to your manipulating it.
These spots are basically due to dialation of the blood vessels.
Your images will be kept confidential.
You need not worry about it.

Ok so even if it is not a angiokeratoma and a lesion it looks OK in appearance?

Also does such dilation have a effect on fertility or anything like that?

Many thanks
doctor
Answered by Dr. Asmeet Kaur Sawhney (9 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
No effect on fertility

Detailed Answer:
Even if it wasn't an angiokeratoma it is still looking normal.
These dilatation of blood vessels don't have any effect on fertility.
These are just superficial lesions in the skin.

After your expert opinion I am still a bit worried.

Scared incase it's a cyst or cancer or something like that
Or do I need to relax

Because the spot is behind the left testicle that's why I was worried incase it's on one of the veins or anything like that
