What Causes A Red Bruise Like Blotch On The Arm After Injury?
Should I get an xray? Could it be dislocated?
Information
Detailed Answer:
Hello -
This looks like a bad bruise with bleeding under the skin but I can't tell from the photos whether there could be a fracture or dislocation.
With a dislocation, there is usually deformity of the joint, and a lot of pain, not just in the area of bruising. With a fracture, there is a lot of pain, and sometimes numbness or nerve pain if a nerve is involved.
If it looks deformed at the elbow joint, or if there is deep aching pain, or if it the long bone looks like it is protruding or out of place, then do go in to have it examined and X-ray.
Otherwise, keep it elevated - higher than the level of the heart if possible, and protected. Apply ice. And if she tolerates it, you can give her ibuprofen after she has food in her stomach.
I hope this information helps.
