What Causes A Red Irritated Wart On The Calf?

Question: I have a raised crusty growth the size of a pencil eraser with red around the base which appeared (growth is on left side of right calf, mid leg )
about a month ago. I thought it would go away but has not. It is irritating. Should I have it removed
