What Causes A Red Knot Behind The Calf While On Plavix?
Question: Hi, my husband has a history of DVT in both lower extremities. Has been taking Warfarin for several years. He has a diagnosis of Factor V Leiden. Recently, his physician changed his medication from Warfarin to Plavix. Yesterday, he developed a knot on the back of his left calf that has redness and very tender to the touch. It does have some warmth. He is also limping. Could this be another DVT? Should we be concerned?
Brief Answer:
Most probably inflammation
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,
If there is redness and some warmth, then most probably it is an inflammation.
But I think it was not a good idea to change warfarin to plavix to a patient with factor V Leiden, especially with a history of two DVTs, unless there are serious contraindications to warfarin.
Hope this was helpful
