What Causes A Swollen Artery On Side Of The Face?

default
Posted on Thu, 31 Jul 2014
Question: I have what seems to be a swollen artery on the right side of my face exactly on the jawline and can feel a strong pulse on it. I don't believe it's a lymph node because I have a small one on the left side, just above the jawline that is firm, round and moveable.

Brief Answer:
It is likely to be a lymph node

Detailed Answer:
Hello

It is very rare for an artery to swell up in that area of the face and i think it is likely to be a swollen lymph node.

In the jaw line runs an artery called as facial artery and this is surrounded by many lymph nodes called as peri facial lymph nodes , which may have enlarged in your case and since it is close to the artery , it may be feeling pulsatile.

Please dont worry, most common cause of enlargement of lymph nodes in this area is due to a dental infection or a facial infection , therefore i would like you to meet your dentist , who will examine you and treat you further.

Take care!
