Brief Answer:
Umbilical hernia...

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking Healthcaremagic.

Two of the main reasons to have a swollen bellybutton are infection or umbilical hernia. If the skin around the bellybutton is red,you have fever, and the pain keeps getting stronger and stronger than signs are of an infection in your bellybutton.

But at your age, probably it is an umbilical hernia (a bulge through the abdominal muscles in the area of the belly button). Usually it contain tissue from the abdomen (fat) but it might contain even part of other organs (intestines)

If the swollen in your bellybutton gets bigger when you cough, or if it gets smaller when you are laying down, and as soon as you are on your feet gets big again that it is a hernia.

It is not an emergency.Usually it doesn't give symptoms for a lot of months or even years.

The treatment for an umbilical hernia is through surgery, once your physician/surgeon has confirm the diagnosis.

Remember to not lift heavy weighs because the hernia will try to get bigger.

If your pain gets stronger and stronger,if you start vomiting,or unable to pass stools or gas than you need to check as soon as possible at the emergency room.

If you have any other question, feel free to contact me.

Wishing you good health.
