What Causes A Yellow Penile Discharge In A New Born Post A Circumcision?

default
Posted on Thu, 28 Apr 2016
Question: My 2 week old son just had a circumcision done on monday. This is going into day 3 and i notice this yellow discharge under bottom half of his penis head. I cannot remember if his doctor told me that was a normal part of healing or not. He does not seem in distress or any discomfort but it bothers me. I want to know if it is infected and if i should seek medical attention. He has been eating normally, every 2 hours and sleeping well. No abnormal crying or fussing. Please help.

Brief Answer:
Normal serous discharge

Detailed Answer:
Hello worried mom,

Thank you for the query and care that you give.

The yellowish discharge is serum of the blood. it is normal part of the healing process. Once the fibrin forms the serous discharge can happen. Since your son is not having symptoms of infection like running temperature, cranky behaviour, so do not worry. Happy feeding and non fussy urination says you should not be worried.

It should be normal in a day or two and your worry shall vanish soon.
