GERD due to hiatus hernia
Detailed Answer:
Hello
1) Do you have nausea/vomiting and burning sensation in chest/upper part of abdomen other than burping ?
2) Your symptoms suggest possibility of GERD, a condition in which loosening of junction of esophagus-stomach can allow gastric juice to enter in esophagus and produce chemical reaction (inflammation) on inner layer of wall of esophagus (esophagitis). This is responsible for burning sensation in chest and upper abdomen.
3) Common cause of GERD is hiatus hernia, a condition in which upper part of stomach move into chest due to widening of opening in diaphragm from which esophagus enters into abdomen. Belching, burping are symptoms associated with hiatus hernia
4) Thus according to your history you might have hiatus hernia associated GERD. Both conditions can be identified on upper GI endoscopy.
5) GERD is medical condition and require anti-acidity treatment. Hiatus hernia must be corrected with surgery only as medical treatment will only improve symptoms.
Gastritis or Dyspepsia
Detailed Answer:
Good morning,
1) I interpreted from your last query that you had sour burp, belching and gas problem.
2) This symptoms suggest possibility of either gastritis or dyspepsia. Gastritis might be due to food irritation (spicy, oily food) or from H.Pylori bacterial infection.
3) Dyspepsia is due to lack of digestive enzymes in alimentary tract due to which digestion of ingested food would not be proper. Symptoms for both these conditions are same and they can be differentiated from investigation only.
4) Before doing any intervention to confirm the diagnosis, you must complete treatment for acidity for 7-10 days. If symptoms persists thereafter then only to undergo upper GI endoscopy to evaluate stomach and first part of small intestine for acidity. (Because dyspepsia is physiologic condition, it can not be evaluated on endoscopy)
5) GERD (as mentioned in previous answer) is rare possibility for your symptoms but it is associated with upper abdominal/chest burning type of pain.
