What Causes Abdominal Pain And Weakness While On Glycomet?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hello,
Few weeks ago it has been detected that my Fasting Sugar is 128 and PP is 231. I have asked to take 1 Tab Glycomet SR 500 twice daily after breakfast and dinner. I have also been asked to maintained diabetic diet (Low cholesterol, multiple small meals, vegetables, salads, fruits etc). I am having the medicine for last 5 days and also observing diet chart as prepared by the nutritionist. I am having some problems like weakness, abdominal pain (though nominal), chills in palms. When I have food, I feel better. Is this due to the new medicine or reduced food intake? Will these symptoms subside over few days or I should immediately talk my doctor. Kindly advise.

Brief Answer:
It may be due to Metaformin.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.
Your symptoms may be due to Metaformin (content of Glycomet).
In practice I usually start Metaformin in small dose with gradual increase in dose after every 3rd day to maximal tolerable dose.
Usually body get adopted to these side effects over a period of time.
I may suggest to Take Tab Glycomet 500SR once a day for 3 to 4 days and then increase it Twice a day from day 4 or 5.
Rest follow diet and exercise.
If despite doing this your symptoms persist better to consult your treating diabetologist.
Hope this helps you.
