What Causes Abdominal Pain When Diagnosed With Hypothyroidism?
Question: I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Could this be the cause of my abdominal pain/gas as all of my ultrasounds, colonoscopy and CAT came back normal?
Brief Answer:
Hypothyroidism + Celiac disease
Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern. It is indeed possible for hypothyroidism to cause abdominal pain and bloating/gas in intestne due to slow intestinal peristalsis. However, Celiac disease ( gluten insensitiity) is another concern . This is commonly associated with hypothyroidism and can cause gassy feeling and abdominal pain. Please discuss wth your doctor and get tests done. I would suggest 1) Total IGA, 2) TTG IGA, 3) Anti Gliadin antibody, 4) CBC, tests .
