What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding After Menopause?
Question: I have had post menopausal bleeding and have atypical cells in my cervix, should I have a complete hysterectomy?
Brief Answer:
Cervical biopsy should be done.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Atypical cells on pap smear is not an indication for total hysterectomy. It can happen due to HPV infecton also. These do not suggest a pre cancerous stage. After a LEEP procedure, colposcopy and cervical biopsy should be done to rule out any malignancy and further follow up PAP smears are needed every 6 months in case the biopsy comes negative.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
In case LEEP suggests cancer, then go for hysterectomy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.

If the cancerous cells are detected on LEEP then it is best to get a partial hysterectomy done to avoid any further spread of the atypical cells. Your doctor has advised you correctly.
