What Causes Abnormally Low Pulse Rate?
Question: I am a 53 year old male. For a few years now I was a very mild BP medication. Was taking 10 mg of Benicar (Olmesartan Medoxomil) every day morning.
Last week when I went to my family doctor for routine check, my BP was low - 95/65. So the doctor asked me to stop the BP medication. Over the last year, I did purposely loose wt as I was a bit obese. Now I am 145 Lbs and have a heght of 5' 4.5".
Over the past 4 days after stopping my BP medication, my BP has been in the 105-110 / 65-72 range, which is good. Howver, my pulse rate is very low (in the 48-56 range). and I am worried after I read about bradycardia. I do hiking (6-7 miles) and when I go to the gym, i can jog 2 miles non stop without getting excessively tired. I do not have any other symptoms, but I am not what someone would call as an athlete either, so I am worried.

Brief Answer:
Nothing serious
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
It is very good that you could lose weight and have controlled blood pressure without medications.
For heart rate: you have slow heart rate at rest, but you have adequate increase in heart rate during physical activity, otherwise you would have complaints of dizziness, weakness and episodes of loss of consciousness during physical activity.
If we have adequate increase in heart rate during physical activity, then it is not important if we have slow resting heart rate, as at rest our organism needs less energy and can do it with slow heart rate.
Don't worry.
Take care
