Question: Hi, I was recently on a 10 day regimen of Bactrim for a suspected UTI. The culture came back clear but I was not informed until day 9 of the medication. Since then, I have been very gassy, small hard stools, and pain on my left side. What suggestions do you have?

Brief Answer:
Management of constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic,

Constipation and alterations in bowel habits is a common occurrence after intake of antibiotics. The pain is likely due to constipation.

The bowel movements will be normal after few days.

Since you could not tolerate Miralax and Colace, You can use Docusate to soften stool and Bisacodyl to stimulate colon movements.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay well hydrated.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol until constipation is relieved.
Also, include a diet rich in probiotics like yogurt.
