What Causes An Itchy Rash On The Chest?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: I have been having a rash since the past two weeks. Ever since it started, it's been very itchy and I've been scratching my chest since then. Weeks now the rash has gotten worse than before covering my entire chest and I can't stop scratching even while at work. I don't remember how I got it but it seemed random. I know I have bad allergies yet I'm not currently taking any prescription medicine. Only other medicine is for my allergies like Allegra, Claritin, etc. Do you know what this is based on the picture? If you are able to see the rash, I'd would like to know what it is and where it came from. And if it is due to eczema or worse and if I should go to see a doctor for this or not. Or what medicine otc works for this.

Brief Answer:
Possible eczema, but might have a fungal infection overlapping.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I saw carefully your photos.

That looks like eczema. It might have an infection (fungal most probably) on top of it.
I would recommend to use hydrocortisone 1% cream, twice/day for 1 week, think layer. If better, continue it for one more week.
If not better use Ketoconazole 2% cream, which will treat a possible fungal infection. Use it twice/day thick layer for 2 weeks.
Keep the area dry.

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Dr. Papaqako
