What Causes Anemia When Suffering From Ulcerative Colitis?
Question: sending my wife pathalogy test report.
pls advise
her CBC is low
she is under going treatment for ulcerative colitis.
she is taking mesacol and azaron
having severe pain in gums also.

Anemia is a very common finding in ulcerative colitis.It is due to chronic blood loss through stool.
At present she need iron supplementation.She should also take vitamin C along with this because vitamin C increases iron absorption.
She should also take iron rich food.If she is non vegetarian then she can also take it.
Increased lymphocyte count is also related to ulcerative colitis.
She is getting right medicines.She should take it continuously.She will improve shortly.
