What Causes Anorexia In A 2 Year Old Infant?

Needs evaluation if associated with systemic symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Loss of appetite if associated with systemic symptoms such as fever, poor activity and lymph node enlargement (presenting as swellings in neck, axilla, groin etc) needs complete clinical and lab evaluation to rule out organic diseases especially tuberculosis. I would recommend you to go for CBC, peripheral smear examination, CRP, ESR, Mantoux test, Blood urea nitrogen, S. Creatinine, SGOT, SGPT and chest X Ray. You may upload the reports for my reference so that I may help you out in the best possible way.
If the loss of appetite is not associated with any other systemic symptoms as suggested above and your child is active, alert and playful then the reason for poor appetite may be food fads which usually appear in this age group. The best way to manage it is:
- good physical activity or plays during day time.
- good balanced diet during meals and extra 2- 3 snacks in-between the meals.
- avoid force feeding and give a gap of at least 2-3 hours in between feeds.
- avoid refined sugars such as chocolates, sweetened juices etc.
- give Syp. Bevon for boosting appetite.
Hope this info was helpful. wishing you good health
regards
