What Causes Antiseptic Smell In Nose And Dizziness When Diagnosed With Low-grade Glioma?
This is happening very fast. I had a 9 level spinal fusion in July when I first noticed the seizures. They're very vague - I smell an antiseptic smell, feel blood rushing to my head and sometimes feel faint. I've never passed out, had convulsions, etc.. It's all over within a minute. They quit for three months then I went to my PCP who ordered an MRI where they discovered a 2cm tumor between my frontal and temporal lobes.
Recovery is within 3 months in most patients having brain surgery
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. The functional MRI will tell us the areas which can be affected due to the tumor and the surgery. It depends on which brain hemisphere dominance is there in you. If the tumor is in the non dominant hemisphere then most functions will be preserved. If it is in the dominant hemisphere of the brain then there is a slight chance of certain activities that can be affected. However a 2 cm tumor is small and your doctor will take care when doing the surgery.
2. The first 3 months are the best time for recovery from a brain surgery. In the event that some of your brain functions are compromised then with active brain exercises you should be able to make recovery in 3 months.
3. Right now your functional MRI report is important. I have regularly come across patients in your situation and functional MRI is a good technique to know the probable problems and effects after surgery.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
