What Causes Anxiety With Loss Of Appetite?

Question: I am a very skinny guy 5'7 115lbs 24 years old. I have always been skinny my whole life. Lately I have been suffering with anxiety and loss of appetite and went to my GP to get checked out. GP suggested we check my thyroid levels. Blood test revealed
T3 Uptake: 30%
T4: 6.4 mcg/dl (4.0- 14.0 normal)
T4 Free: 1.29ng/dl (0.76- 1.79 normal)
TSH: 0.964 UIU/ml (0.500-5.000 normal)
Do I have a thyroid problem? Please doctors, give me advice. I haven't gone back to see my GP and would like advice first before I go see her.

Brief answer....your reports are normal
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Your reports are in normal range and hence there is nothing to worry on this account.
As far as your thin frame is oncerned,it can be corrected by proper exercises and nutrition.
Regarding anxiety, you can talk to your doctor for some mild anti anxiety medicines for few days and along with this, start doing regular exercises and deep breathing exercises.
Be patient,as everything shall be all right gradually.
I hope it helps, however you may revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Hello, and thank you doctor for your response. What medicine do you suggest to treat anxiety? Also, what can you recommend for loss of appetite as well? The reason I have such things is because I have recently started masters program and am very stressed lately.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Hello,
Medicines used for anxiety are benzodiazipines and anti depressants.
Since these are prescription based medicines and are highly addictive, they are used under the supervision of your treating doctor. These medicines result in drowsiness and sleepiness.
As a doctor I avoid advising these medicines and rely on self help treatment.
This consists of....
Regular exercises
Deep breathing exercises,meditation and yoga
Avoiding tea,coffee,colas
Avoiding Alcohol and drugsĀ
Sleeping early and properly
Drinking plenty of water and taking more of fresh fruits and green vegetables.
Avoiding junk foods like burgers, pizzas, pastas etc.
these measures would help in improving your appetite also.
If these self help methods fail, then you can go to your doctor for counselling and medications.
Thanks
