What Causes Appetite Loss And Cramping After Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 May 2014
Question: I have had diarrhea a number of times during the past four days. I don't have an appetite and don't feel well because of stomach cramping. I had a sleeve gastrectomy in February and wonder if I should be concerned.

Brief Answer: not really Detailed Answer: Diarrhea is a common problem, and most of the time it is infectious in nature. If it is infectious it should start to get better in 1 week, and resolve in 2 weeks. If you see blood in the stool or have fevers, you should seek medical attention. The fact that you had a sleeve gastrectomy recently is likely coincidental, but it is unlikely to be related to your current symptoms. You may have catched an infection while in the hospital and now is that you developed symptoms, but that is unusual. you may have some malabsorption from the sleeve gastrectomy, but usually doesn't cause diarrhea. i suggest you to take over the count anti-diarrheals, as long as you don't have blood in stool or fevers. if you don't improve after 1-2 weeks, definitely seek medical attention as you would need further testing. hope that helps
