What Causes Arrhythmia?
Question: Hi
Recently while sleeping i woke up with an uncontrollable fast heart beat. I stepped out of bed and fainted. Ambulance arrived and stated that the ecg was abnormal and showed i had a sinus tricardia and long qt intervals. Bloods were negative for heart attacks etc..
3 nights later while resting i notice a deep flutter in my chest and go really dizzy..
Then last night i have more flutters.and start shaking like i couldn't control it, my sister phones an ambulance which brings me to the hospital.
I'm now get referred to a heart specialist as they cant give me any indication of what might be wrong. My docter is ordering me in a holter machine to wear for 24 hours.
My question is when i fainted and.when paramedics carried out an ecg and it came back abnormal with prolonged qt intervals, does that mean i have the condition? The hospital last night said my other ecgs were normal even though i continue to have bad palpitations, dizziness and lack of energy and told me i dont have it. If i did have the condition what is the medication that needs to be taking to control it and do you recommended any other tests to get.a firm diagnose of it.
I also have a cough for nearly 3 months which is quite wheezy and dry and hurts when i cough, hospital told me no infection is present in my chest so could this be connected to everything that's going on at the present. My ankles have also swollen and i find im very breathless even while sitting and lying down in bed. My heart rate can go to about 42 beats per minute while resting.

These can develop suddenly and so prior ecg will be normal.
Also if you are asymptomatic at the time of taking ecg chances ate it will be normal as the arrhythmia are often episodic.
The symptoms of dry cough and dyspnoea point to a possible heart failure. you should inform your cardiologist. an echocardiography may be planned if the holter turns out normal.
the treatment will depend on the reports of the 2 tests. So as of now I cannot comment on that.
