Question: Is it possible for ovaries to "disappear"? I am 56 and was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago. I had my uterus removed 16 years ago. Before treating my cancer they preformed hormone level tests and decided I was pre menopause. After chemotherapy the same test were preformed and was labeled post menopausal and I was started on anastrozal. My new oncologist was not satisfied with just the hormone tests and worried about the chances my ovaries producing estrogen and me be on anastrozal. We decided to remove my ovaries. The OBGYN (my surgeon) was not able to locate on of the ovaries ( I have had five abdominal surgeries and he believed it was hidden under scar tissue). He removed what he thought was my right ovary and fulopian tube. We the pathology report came back it was identied as the Fallopian tube with a benign mass attached. He believes that they have disaperred and this proves that there is no chance of either ovary producing estrogen and should be a green light to proceed with the anastrozal.
