What Causes Back Pain After Lumbar Fusion Surgery?

Just very tired of having back pain post-lumbar fusion surgery 7 years ago. Now have another disc involved - disc 3 and also still bulging post surgery are disc 4,5 S-l. (If I'm stating that correctly). What a bummer it is. Recently did have MRI showing degenerative changes and the bulging discs at discs 3, 4 5 S1. Do use ice on a regular basis. In pain nearly 24/7 and FL is so so strict on pain meds it's nearly impossible to get them. Forgot another major issue: degenerative disc disease (which you may have figured out already) and arthritis of the neck (secretary for years and kniitter) so always looking down. Fortunately, it doesn't bother me at all. I could not locate my most current MRI notes. However, I did cover what they did say (basically, in layman's terms regarding the degenerative disc disease and bulging discs. The neck arthritis, however, is relatively new.
Get xray done.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have read your query.
I have read carefully your MRI report which you have mentioned in your query.
Since you have mentioned degenerative disc disease, I advise you to get xray of lumbosacral region in AP and Lateral view and send me the report, as I want to see the present condition of your vertebrae, as bony part can never be seen on MRI scan.
Also get serum uric acid, fasting blood sugar levels, serum RA factor quantitative, E.SR, C.R.P levels done and send me the report.
In some patients the condition of vertebrae is so bad that even strong medication can't help them because in addition they need vertebral support or braces.
Till then apply hot pack in place of ice packs.
In addition to already taking medication you can add tablet of thiocolchicoside by prescription of your local doctor.
Do back strengthening exercises as uploaded on you tube.
I hope it helps.
Thanks.
Dr.Singh.
