What Causes Back Pain Postpartum?
My wife had delivered a baby on 20th Dec 2016 and started light exercise after 4 months after consulting doctor like
- Brisk walking on tread mill for about 15-10 min twice or thrice in a week
- Cycling for about 15 min twice ir thrice in a week
- Sauna for about 10 min twice or thrice in a week
Shall she continue above things or any harm in doing these? Also, what additional exercises/activities she can do now after completion of 5 months of delivery?
One more thing...she is having backache for past one week. Any suggestions in this regard would be helpful.

Adequate exercises
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
She can do all the exercises you have mentioned without any harm to herself.
She is doing adequate exercises.
No additional exercises are required at this time, as she have to breastfeed and look after the baby which are also energy consuming tasks.
Backache is common in post pregnancy period due to calcium deficiency ,regular wrong postures in breastfeeding and picking up the baby again and again by stooping forward.
I will suggest her to apply volini spray on back, avoid stooping and take calcium supplementation.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Thanks for your reply.
Just a follow up question....
- Are the above exercises sufficient to loose weight? She is approx 10 KGs more than her normal weight before pregnancy. She is concerned about losing weight.
- She initially took shelcal 500 for few days but, as of now she is taking only 2 glass of milk in a day and no other calcium supplement. Is this enough or she needs to take some supplement in addition to milk. If yes, please suggest the name of supplement and dosage. Thanks.

Calcium supplementation needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Yes, the above exercises are sufficient to lose weight.
Weight gain during pregnancy is slowly shed after delivery and it takes almost a year to come back to one's normal shape.
Calcium requirement post pregnancy cannot be fulfilled by milk alone.
One needs to take calcium supplementation in form of tablets.
Few brands are Shelcal, Macalvit, coercium etc.
She can take any of these twice a day at least for 2 months.
