Question: In 2010 I had discs 4,5,6 replaced. It helped with my nerve pain but now in 2014 I'm having surgery on NECK again but this time by a neurologist. I have arthritis bad and other things in my neck. My primary doctor didn't say what they were and I forgot to ask as I absorbed it all in. I'll be having surgery by a neurologist. Any idea what he is going to do? I see my primary doctor in 2weeks and will have my questions written down.XXXX
Brief Answer:
What are your current symptoms?
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It sounds like you had a cervical fusion in the past. Its unclear from the information that you have shared so far as to what your symptoms are and why you are having further surgery.
Neurologists do not typically do surgery. they may request that an interventional radiologist perform a CT guided procedure such as a nerve root block however. Neurosurgeons may operate on the neck as well as orthopaedic surgeons. the main indications for surgery are nerve or spinal canal narrowing causing nerve root or spinal cord compression. It would be unusual to perform surgery for arthritic changes in the neck.
If you do have any further information I would be happy to try and help.
best wishes
