What Causes Bad Body Odor While Sweating?
use antiperspirants; get the investigations done
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.
I understand your concern.
Body odour is a very sensitive and irritating issue. Yes, there can be some medical issues like diabetes, hyperthyroidism, liver or kidney disease which can lead to excess sweat and body odour. I would suggest you the following-
Wash your body regularly with antibacterial soaps. Put more importance in groin, armpit etc.
Shave axillary or pubic hair. This will not allow accumulation of sweat in these areas.
Use antiperspirants containing aluminium chloride. These are very effective.
Lose weight if you are obese, wear clean light clothes so that you sweat less.
Besides those, I will suggest you get blood for sugar, liver function, thyroid profile, urea and creatinine done. Reports can predict underlying diseases if any. Your local physician will know about the tests.
Avoid rich spicy food. Take plenty of fluids. Therapy with botulinum toxin is being practised these days. The results are satisfactory.
Surgical treatments of cutting the nerves of the odour pathway like thoracic sympathectomy are the last options.
You can try the above. The last two should be your last resort.
Get back with the reports.
Hope this was useful.
Regards.
