What Causes Bad Taste In Mouth And Nausea While On Flecainide?

Question: I am a 76 year old female 103 lbs, had a dual chamber PPM inserted 6 days ago for long sinus pauses (up to 14 sec) and paroxysmal atrial fib. I am taking Flecainide 100 mg twice daily, Xarelto 20 mg once a day, and Metoprolol succ. 25 mg twice daily. I have unrelenting nausea and a bad taste in my mouth--could this be due to the Flecainide? Thanks. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX ( YYYY@YYYY )

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I am a licensed family physician and doing my Level-III traiming and research in Cardiology,I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

Yes Flecainide might well be causing it , in 5-9% of people it is known to cause nausea which has no other evident reason and in 3% people it causes stomach upset which may cause bad taste in mouth.

I would advise you to try syrup gaviscon a table spoon twice a day and see if it helps, if it doesn't then you might will need an antiemetic and a PPI prescribed by the doctor so if it doesn't settle , contacf your doctor regarding the problem.
