Posted on Mon, 21 Mar 2016
Question: Hello...I recently have had a elevated sed rate just at 21. My baseline for prior results has been 16. The ANA is positive with 1:80 fine speckled titer. CBC was normal with just a low MCHC. I have had significant bilateral hip, leg, elbow, wrists, fingers, femur and leg muscle pain. Nausea, increased headaches, brain fog. This has increased from on and off to now constant the past 2 months. Dr is referring me to rheumatology. Are you able to provide any inside as to result interpretation and or direction to go in? Thank you for your time.

Brief Answer:
This could be Lupus .

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that , since your ANA is positive although not in a high titre , there is a possibility of Lupus . Your ESR is not that raised . I think you need to get an ENA profile , Urine to look for proteinuria , CPK , TSH antiphospholipid antibody profile done to rule out further organ involvement in lupus . All your symptoms can arise due to Lupus as Lupus has myriad presentation and can give multiple symptoms which can be confusing . If all these tests come negative then we will think of other possibilities but we need to rule this out first . Any other query you want to ask please ask .

Take care.

Dr. Shruti
