What Causes Black Stools Along With Pain In Centre Of Abdomen?

Question: Hello Doctors,

i would like to ask for an 2nd Opinion. My mum is having center stomach pain (center stomach) always and motions. her motions are black at times. i feel really very scared.

i checked with my family doctor and she said that's nothing as her Cholesterol is little high and her bladder wall is thicker (on seeing the scan report) and she has given her tablets. but i am scared as she still having stomach pain and motions (its normal as thick and not loose) even after nearly 5 days of tablets.

Attached are the scan reports. Please tell me if its anything serious.

Hi.
Thanks for your query for your Mother.

Scanned reports are not yet attached to the query.
It is serious to have ''black'' stools with pain in the center of the abdomen.
The possible reasons are :
Gastric ulcer or so.
Intestinal infection with ulceration.

I would advise the following in such a patient:
-Stool test: routine, microscopy, occult blood (as the motions are black- this is indicative of bleeding somewhere in the intestinal tracts including stomach- this is also called as Malena).
-Tests of blood: routine like Hb, WBC, ESR, Sugar, urea, creatinine, Liver Function tests, Thyroid function tests and as ordered by the Gastroenterologist on examination.
-Urine: Routine, microscopy, culture and sensitivity ( as the bladder is thick)
-CT scan of the abdomen.
-Upper GI endoscopy to see if there are ulcers, tumors, gastritis or so and also to see whether there is a focus of bleeding.
-Colonoscopy

* Black stool is suggestive of bleeding.
-To take a course of an antibiotic, Metronidazole if not yet taken.
-Probiotic and activated charcoal tablets and multivitamin as anti-oxidants.

All these investigations are done to find out the cause and treat the cause, your Mother will be benefited.

Control of Diabetes if your Mother has. Proper Blood sugar charting.

Hi.
Seen the reports.
It mentions Cystitis on USG , deranged blood sugars and few other findings noted.
Stool test is not there or not done yet..
Get the rest of the tests done as already advised.

Also get a course of an antibiotic and metronidazole under the guidance and prescription of your Doctor, add probiotic.
