What Causes Bleeding After Intercourse Inspite Of Having Hysterectomy?
Question: I am a 63 year old woman who had had total hysterectomy (including removal of the cervix) in 1/2011. The first time that I had intercourse (3 days ago), there was very heavy bleeding, and a large, semi-solid mass also. During intercourse there was a 'popping sound', then the bleeding came. What could have caused this?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
I think the possibilities are the following -
1. A polyp
2. A foreign body or growth on the vault
3. Trauma / laceration / tear during intercourse.
4. Vaginal wall cyst that popped.
The bleeding cannot be ignored.
Please consult a gynaecologist and go for complete internal evaluation - per vaginum and per speculum as well as a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan, also a Pap smear.
All the best
