default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: Hello, I have been on the depo for 6 years and have never missed a shot, i received my recent shot about 10-15 days late. I had intercourse 3 days after I received the shot. I began bleeding during intercourse but stopped. 3 days later I had very light spotting that only lasted for a day and stopped but having some crampong now. My pregnancy test was negative before the shot but is there a chance i could be pregnant since i was late getting the shot and had some spotting?

Brief Answer:
Low chance of pregnancy. Repeat pregnancy test after 2 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Bleeding during intercourse or spotting may be due to rough sex, vaginal infection, hormonal imbalance (effect of DEPO shot) etc. In this case, your chance of pregnancy is LOW but needs to confirm by repeating the test.

As you have received your shot 10-15 days late, I suggest you to repeat the home pregnancy test after 2 weeks to clear doubt. Early test is NOT useful.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish your good health and take care yourself.
