What Causes Bleeding From Feet Post Ingrown Removal Of Toe?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I had ingrown permanent removal surgery today, it hurt even though he gave me two needles to numb it I am a diabetic and have less feeling in my feet than most, as I was leaving the drs office I left a trail of blood in the parking lot! And took one of the towels I had on my car seat in the floor to protect my carpet, the blood saturated in every place I put my foot on the towel? The doctor is not in his office the rest of the week, should I go to my primary care doctor to change the bandaging or wait until Monday as he said he would change the bandage then?

Brief Answer:
Go to primary care doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Little bleeding after surgery for ingrown removal of toe / nail is very common. But the way you are describing seems that you have a lot of bleeding.
Only issue in your case is that you have diabetes with diabetic neuropathy.
Now this is a complicated issue. As your are prone to infection, you should get your wound reexamined , to be sure that bleeding is under control , so that healing is in proper way. A problem with diabetics is that they are very prone to secondary infections. So, sterilized proper dressing is must with perfect blood sugar control.
Considering all this, i won't advise you to wait. You should report to your primary care doctor. He will check the bleeding and healing status and guide you accordingly.
If you have any further query, feel free to ask me.
