Is Normal Walking Possible After Spinal Surgery?

My name is barbara, I am 60 years old now; three years ago I had spinal surgery and a cyst was removed overlying the sciatica nerve; Before the surgery I had 8 months of excuritating pain in my left leg along with the back pain. I still have very sharp pain in my legs. Also, titatium rods were put in and my back hurts in that area (lower back L5-S1). I am diaabetic. I have had several x-rays of the back and the surgeon tells me everything is ok, I have diabetic neuropathy . I m having a hard time walking distances or standing in lines too long. Have you heard of any patients with similar condition, and willl I ever be able to walking normal disances again?

Hello,

If peripheral neuropathy is found to be the primary problem that does not let you walk, it should be treated accurately in order to improve. Correct control of blood sugar levels (within the normal ranges) and the use of anti-neurological drugs such as Pregabalin, should help you improve. The use of vitamin B supplements also should improve neural functionality. Discuss these issues with your doctor.
