Posted on Mon, 14 Apr 2014
Question: I took prepopik at the prescribed times, at 3 this afternoon and 8 this evening, plus the required glasses of water. I've had very little reaction, only 2 bowel movements and it's 12:13 AM. I feel a bit bloated, etc. but that's it. What to do?

Brief Answer: No active treatment required for bloating Detailed Answer: Hi there, Thanks for posting your query on this forum. You will appreciate that tinkering with the natural movement of the bowel, causes discomfort. It would therefore be reasonable to give time for the drug to cause its full effect. As such, bloating of abdomen is a common sequelae of laxatives. In the meanwhile, please continue taking plenty of water, which will dilute the hard stools in the colon and thereby facilitate its excretion. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY PAIN-KILLER/anti-spasmodic drug, AS IT WOULD COUNTERACT Preponik. If the response is inadequate, repeat a course of Preponik the following day. Once the bowel movements normalize, I would recommend taking Psyllium husk/powder daily at bedtime for 7-10 days, to completely normalize bowel movements. In addition, a 2-weeks' course of a Probiotic, such as, Lactobacilli and, Pancreatic digestive enzymes will normalize the gut flora. Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me and prescribe the advised supplements in appropriate doses. Hope I have addressed your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any. Fond regards and have a nice day, Col (Dr.) Rakesh Karanwal
