Question: My nose is getting block as a result I am not able to breathe properly. And sometimes I snore at night and I breathe through my moth instead of nose. Sometimes my vision gets blurred and I start to stammer when my nose gets choked. I continue to use OTRIVIN nasal drop till date. I have not consulted with any doctor till now. This is supposed to be happening for many years. Please help.

Brief Answer:
stop otrivin immediately

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and thanks for using healthcaremagic,

There are many reasons for nose block, the commonest being deviated nasal septum, enlarged turbinates and allergy of the nose.

Decongestant nose drop slike otrivin if used for long periods of time cause reflex nasal congestion and nose block.
Otrivin should never be used for more than 6 days at a time.

You should see an ENT specialist to find the cause for nose block, since only examination will tell us.

To wean off the effect of otrivin you may need steroid nasal spray. Talk to your doctor about it. I practise at XXXXXXX Polyclinic in JP XXXXXXX 1st phase in bagalore. Phone - 0000.

Regards,
Dr Rajkishori Godhi.

Yes I consulted with Dr. Mercy Sabu from St. XXXXXXX hospital, XXXXXXX She suggested to have a surgery as the best alternative. She also advised to stop otrivin. As of now she has given me two medicine i.e, duonase and Telekast - L to use but just for a week and two. Please advise what should I do next. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
continue the tablets

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir,
Duonase and Telakast-L are medicines for nasal allergy.

Duonase is also used to wean people off otrivin nose drops. Please ask your doctor for a diagnosis. If she has suggested surgery then probably you have a deviated nasal septum.

Please continue the medicines prescribed to you make sure that allergy is excluded before opting for surgery.
