Hi,

I understand you wish to connect all the dots and to know about what went wrong. But you don't have enough dots to make a clear picture here. You need to learn more information from your doctors.

However I'll give you the following information.

1. Kidney stones are not very uncommon. Though it is not clear what causes recurring kidney stones, it is associated with persisting / recurring urinary tract infection, diet factors, your weight and physical activity. Interestingly inflammatory bowel disease is linked to recurrent kidney stone. Perhaps inflammatory bowel disease led to megacolon and gangrenous intestines. Please talk to your nephrologist.

2. Treatment of renal stones - both stenting and lithotripsy has no links to subsequent MRSA development or the megacolon formation. Let me know if there were any other treatment prescribed following renal stone management.

3. As I mentioned earlier megacolon might be related on inflammatory bowel disease. Alternatively, megacolon may be related to leg venous clots (if that's what you meant).

4. Since you said you had multiple venous blood clots, it is possible that you had clot focci somewhere else and it migrated to the legs as well as intestines leading to blood clots in legs and ischemic damages to the intestine leading to megacolon. If that was the cause, the doctor's must have evaluated for possible clot focci. Many a time the focci is from the heart. Was EKG/echocardiogram done. Discuss with your doctor.

5. Lastly MRSA is most likely acquired during your hospitalisation for megacolon, intestine gangrene and leg blood clots. Unlikely from the ER visit or from the lithrotripsy machine.

If I were you, I would get back to the doctor who treatment me for megacolon and leg blood clots. Investigations and evaluations done during hospitalisation can answer your questions. Further I also don't see any list of medications which is pretty unusual for some one who suffered multiple leg venous blood clots. (Or did I misunderstood bruising / hematoma as venous blood clots).

Hope this helps you. I'll be glad to provide clarifications if it is not very clear.

Regards
