What Causes Blood Clots In Urine?
Question: I am a 64 year old man in excellent heaith and I have blood clots in my urine

bloot clots in the urine means that somewhere in your urinary tract there is a bleeding structure. Painless bleeding raises suspicion for tumors. Painful bleeding raises suspicion for obstruction (due to renal stones usually). In both cases the cause has to be determined.
Sometimes infections of the urinary tract may cause bleeding but blood clots are not very likely.
The investigation should start with a urinalysis and a urinary tract ultrasound scan. If the ultrasound scan is negative then further diagnostic evaluations might be required like cystoscopy, CT scan of the urinary tract and tests for the prostate. Measuring the PSA (prostatic specific antigen) may provide additional clues.
Your primary care physician should be the first to know about your problem and start the investigation. A more specialized option would be a urologist particularly if you had pain.
