Brief Answer:
Bleeding due to liver damage; vit K deficiency
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma'am,
Sorry to hear about your aunt's condition. Bile duct cancer blocks the flow of bile to the intestines. Bile is responsible for the absorption of Vit K (fat soluble vitamin), which helps in the normal clotting of blood. It is due to the malabsorption of Vit K and liver dysfunction, that you aunt must have had the episodes of bleeding from the anus.
Vitamin K can be supplemented from outside in the form of injections. One injection a day for three days is sufficient in most cases to reverse the abnormal clotting profile of the blood. If Vit K does not work, then the patient needs to be given fresh frozen plasma.
If her cancer is inoperable, a stent can be put in the bile duct, which will facilitate the flow of bile down to the intestines. This will help her in two ways: improve her jaundice and reduce the chances of bleeding. The drawback of this procedure is the increased risk of infection.
