What Causes Blood In Semen?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 Jan 2015
Question: Have had Hematospermia for about 10 days. Doctor on this site encouraged to continue having sex and I'm realizing my semen release (last 3 times) is considerably less than normal. Could this be because I took a break from intercourse for awhile or could there be another issue? I've read where zinc could help. Thoughts on all? Thank you

Brief Answer:
You should consult urologist and have it checked.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Please note that every case of hematospermia should be consulted with urologist. The most common reason of blood in semen is an inflammation. Inflammation may be present in any area between the testis and the urethra (prostate inflammation, testis inflammation, epidydimitis, urethra inflammation). Some of inflammation may disappear without any treatment. Some may need antibiotic treatment.
As you are over 40, there is one more thing which should be ruled out. Please note that in rare cases blood in semen can be the reason of prostate or testis cancer. This is the reason why you should consult urologist.

If its about less semen release, any mentioned above reason can cause such symptom as well.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
