What Causes Blood In Stool After Taking Cilostazol?
Question: Recently started taking cilostazol oral about a week ago, twice daily. Bowel movement this morning showed blood in stool. Could this medication be the cause of the blood.
Brief Answer:
Yes Cilostazol reversibly inhibits platelet aggregation
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The recent symptoms of blood in the stool could be because of action of Pletal (Cilostazol) which reversibly inhibits platelet aggregation leading to bleeding. Side effects in the literature report blood in the urine while blood in the stool could happen too. While you are on aspirin they may or may not interact.
However when a 75 yr old comes with blood in the stool it needs through investigation to rule out the ultimate diagnosis including cancer of colon.
Hence it is important to see the doctor first and get a thorough check up.

Thanks for the info, will be seeing my doctor in about 10 days, will give her a copy of your report. Forgot to mention that I was given a colonoscopy back in February this year and all was normal. Once again thanks.
Brief Answer:
Good luck and health
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is good to know clear colonoscopy this year. In such a case there seems no need to re do it. A simple anoscopy should reveal the details.
Hope this helps. Please close our discussion if you do not have further inquiry.
