What Causes Blood In Stool While Having Diverticulitis And IBS?
Question: I went out for dinner last night and had chicken XXXXXXX and drank 3 Gin and tonic.
In the middle of the night I had woken up with cramps and had a difficult time going to the bathroom. I was sweating, clammy and in pain but finally had a bowel movement. I do have diverticulitis and IBS. When I woke up this morning I went to the bathroom again but this time there was trace amount of blood. I have never seen blood before. I have been going on and off with a mix of diarrhea. the small amount of blood comes and goes. I may have hemorrhoids...I don't know it just worries me to see this.
I was going to take Imopdium but thought I should get a Doctors opinion. I am on holidays in Florida and not sure what to do. I am not going to the bathroom as much now. When I do it is about the size of a 1/ of a 4teaspoon. I am eating chicken with rice soup as I was feeling a little weak. Can you help me and advise. Thank you in advance. XXXX

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It is possible that you have acute gastroenteritis. You need to get your stool examined for routine microscopy and occult blood test. If the pus cell count is raised and if there is blood present you might need to be treated with antibiotics. As of now, try to remain away from drinking, eat light, and take ORS (oral rehydration solution). Take omeprazole once daily.
You need to take a fiber rich diet. The diverticulitis could also be contributory and the alcohol could have aggravated it.
It would be a good idea to get a doctor's opinion.

I have taken one Imodium, eaten 2 whole wheat toast and chicken with rice soup.
